The science is simple

One Coil. Two Jobs. Runs in Reverse.

A heat pump doesn’t make heat — it moves it. In winter it pulls warmth in from the cold outside air. Flip it, and the same unit pulls heat out of your home to cool you in summer. One coil, running the other direction.

  1. Heats most of the year — even when it’s cold outside. Our crossover models are built for the East Bay’s cool, foggy winters.
  2. Cools in summer — the exact same outdoor unit, now doing air conditioning, so one machine replaces your furnace and your AC.
  3. Keeps your gas furnace as backup — on the coldest snap days, the smart controller hands off to your existing gas furnace so you never feel a dip.
  4. Works with the gas furnace you already have. No full teardown. No ripped-out ducts. Just an efficient upgrade that lowers your bills.

Quick answers

Questions East Bay Homeowners Ask Us

Do I have to rip out my gas furnace to go dual fuel?

No. A crossover / dual fuel system pairs a new heat pump with the gas furnace you already have. On most installs we keep the existing furnace as backup and just add the heat pump outdoor unit and a fan coil. It’s an upgrade, not a teardown.

What’s the difference between the 37MURA and the 37MUHA?

The 37MURA is the gas / dual-fuel version — it works with your gas furnace for backup heat and is ideal if you’re on gas or want to keep gas. The 37MUHA is all-electric — no gas line, and it pairs perfectly with solar panels. Both are Carrier Comfort Series crossover units with excellent cold-weather performance.

Is the smart controller required?

It’s optional, but it’s the brain that makes dual fuel actually smart. The KSACN1701AAA auto-switches between your heat pump and gas furnace by outdoor temperature and energy demand, so you’re not running gas on a mild day. It also adds Wi-Fi control, iCheck diagnostics, and a 5-year warranty. Most of our customers include it.

What do the numbers like 19 SEER2 and 10.8 HSPF2 mean?

SEER2 measures how efficiently a system cools (higher is better). HSPF2 measures heating efficiency (higher is better). These are the ratings Carrier publishes for each model and they’re why a quality crossover cuts your energy bills vs. an older gas-only or electric-resistance system.

Why does the estimate say “equipment only”?

Because every home is different. Tonnage, ductwork condition, electrical panel, and where the outdoor unit sits all affect final cost. The range on this page is the equipment itself. Your FREE full estimate is where we walk your home, size it correctly, and give you an exact install price.
